British Chamber thanks Iloilo mayor

THE British Chamber of Commerce Philippines (BCCP) thanked Mayor Jose Espinosa III for the great success of the recently-concluded Iloilo Trade Mission.

“I want to thank you for your commitment to making this event so successful. It was the vision of the British Chamber to facilitate a dialogue between the government and private sectors and present business opportunities in Iloilo and the Visayas as a whole,” BCCP chairman Chris Nelson wrote Espinosa.

It was BCCP’s largest event participated by over 120 participants with a total of 63 delegates from various industries in United Kingdom and Manila.

Nelson expressed gratitude to Espinosa for hosting the welcome dinner held at the newly-restored Elizalde y Cia Building, and for presenting the investment opportunities during the forum, and for sharing the connection of Iloilo City and Britain.

Nelson looked forward to continue the relationship between BCCP and Iloilo City to foster fruitful cooperation by constantly communicating with the City Government, newly-constituted Iloilo City Trade and Investment Promotions Board, Iloilo Business Club and Iloilo Economic Development Foundation.

Espinosa said the existence of Muelle Loney, named after Vice Consul Nicholas Loney, was the pillar of vibrant trade relations between Iloilo City and Britain which started as early as 1856 when Iloilo Port was opened to the world.

He added the influence had spread and traced to British insurance firms, sugar warehouses and exporters, Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, financial institutions supporting the sugar industry and car assembly facility of the Daimler Benz model. (PR)
