SJI, Dumaguete spikers lead Sipalay beach volley

ST. JOHNS Institute (SJI) and Timagrey of Dumaguete posted early wins in Day 1 of the Sipalay Women’s 18 and Under Beach Volleyball Invitational Tournament scheduled March 21 to 23 in the Sipalay City Beach Front.

SJI-A demolished Sipalay-C in the opener, 30-8 before taking down Enrique Villanueva-Siquijor, 30-17 and Sipalay-A, 30-24.

SJI-B dominated University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R), 30-21. It was the back-to-back loss of UNO-R after yielded to Sipalay-B, 30-12.

Timagrey of Dumaguete also booked early victories with a 30-14 triumph over Enrique Villanueva-Siquijor followed by a 30-26 win against Living Stones International School, and Sipalay-C, 30-11.

Despite the loss, Living Stones spikers booked a pair of wins over Sipalay-A, 33-31 and Enrique Villanueva-Siquijor, 30-26.

Other results saw Pontevedra beating Foundation Preparatory Academy, 30-25; Pontevedra spanking Sipalay-B, 30-19; and Sipalay-A upending Sipalay-C, 30-25.

The three-day tournament, which is part of the City’s 17th Charter Day Anniversary, is organized by Sipalay City’s Nathaniel Jan Celiz, Roger Banzuela of UniGames and Negros Occidental Volleyball Association, and Eduardo Baragat, president of Pasaway Foundation Inc. (HGD)
