Faithful urged to take part in peace gathering

The Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro, along with the city government, will hold a peace gathering at 8 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, in Plaza Divisoria.

Dubbed as “Panaghiusa sa Kalinaw”, the event is a call for peace in Mindanao amid the martial law declaration.

It will hold an ecumenical prayer which will be led by Archbishop Antonio Ledesma, Imam Sheik Abdurashid Hashim, and Reverend Ricardo Yanez of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, Ledesma in his Easter Sunday message urged the Catholic faithful to prioritize peace in their prayers.

Ledesma said it should be every Catholic's prayer to achieve peace especially in Mindanao, which is still under martial law.

At the height of the Marawi siege last year, the interfaith groups launched a solidarity prayer for peace translated in English, Cebuano, and Maranao.

Like last year, Catholics and Muslims alike are urged to pray not only for peace to come but also for each individual to become peace makers or channels of peace.

City Mayor Oscar Moreno will deliver a message for peace today, along with Archbishop Ledesma, representatives from the youth, Indigenous Peoples, fisher folks, and former rebels.

Colonel Royland Orquia of the 4th Infantry Division (4ID) will also give his message as a representative for the security sector. (PJ Orias)
