Angeles City all set for Holy Week 2018

VARIOUS religious and cultural activities have been lined up in partnership with the religious sector, performing arts and socio-civic groups for a more reflective and solemn Holy Week.

“The observance of the Lenten Season in our city will highlight our annual activities, both religious and traditional events, which aim to give our people and tourists a chance to reflect on their faith,” said tourism officer John Montances.

Montances also encouraged the tourists and pilgrims to visit the city and witness the different Angeleño religious and cultural practices.

For his part, Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan said the observance of the Lenten Week in the city will give devotees options and means to contemplate.

“The Holy week is about the reflection of one’s soul, this is a time for self-realization and look back at the sacrifices that Christ has done for all of us,” said Mayor Pamintuan.

For this year, Sinukwan Kapampangan Center for the Arts will stage the 7th edition of the “Panata at Panalangin” on March 26 and 31, 6:00 pm at MarQuee Mall Open Grounds.

The Lenten special, which presents a glimpse of the religious practices of the Kapampangan region through a mixed-media art and dance performance, will be dedicated for the healing of the sick.

On the other hand, Kapampangan Lenten rituals will be showcased on March 27 through the “Ing Ritwal Ning Banal a Panata”, 6:00pm at Plaza Angel, Heritage District.

Happening on March 28 is the annual community-wide gathering “Apunan ning Pamisasanmetung” which will be staged by the Tabun Barangay Council at 6:00pm.

Meanwhile, the city’s most anticipated two-part re-enactment of the Siete Palabras (Seven Last Words) will happen on March 29 with the Re-enactment of the Last Supper, 6 p.m. at Arevalo Basketball Court, and on the 30th with the Re-enactment of the Crucifixion and Death of Christ, 1 p.m. at the Golgotha, Barangay Lourdes Northwest.

The Museum of Philippine Social History will hold a lecture about the religious revolution in Pampanga 1887-1912 at 10 a.m. on March 28. The talk will be facilitated by Ian Christopher Alfonso. (PR)
