WHILE summer for many is the best time to get drenched under the beaming sunlight and frolic in sandy beaches, for some, it is a great time to seal their love for each other through the solemnity of marriage.

This was the case for 44 couples from various villages in Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental as the municipal government sponsored a mass wedding to “secure a better and legit relationships for functional families in the town.”

It was a celebration of love and faith as the line-up of couples are very diverse. Some have been partners for decades and others are just new in their relationships.

The event was officiated by Judge Cyclamen Fernandez of Regional Trial Court Branch 63 of La Carlota City.

As the father of the town, Mayor Magdaleno Peña advised the newlyweds “to make sure that they take seriously their role as parents to their children or future children, raise them as good citizens, take good care of their needs and good health, and provide them good education.”

He also promised that the local government unit will provide assistance as much as it can to fulfill their role as responsible parents. Towards the end of his speech, the mayor requested all the newly married couples to do the longest kiss in history as witnessed by their sponsors and families around. The mayor also treated them with free wedding cakes and lunch after the ceremony.
