THE City Government of Cagayan de Oro has created a task force to facilitate the retrieval and cleanup of sagging or dangling cables and wires throughout the city.
Task Force Hapsay Kable, headed by City Mayor Oscar Moreno and co-chaired by National Telecommunications Commission Regional Director Teodoro Buenavista and City Councilor Teodulfo Lao Jr., the chairman of the city's committee on public utilities, consisted of the Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company Inc. (Cepalco), the City Public Service Office, City Engineer's Office, Office of the Building Official, and telecommunication companies such as PLDT, Globe, Smart, Parasat, Philcom, and Misamis Oriental Telephone System Inc. (MisOrTel).
According to Lao, they plan to start the clean-up and retrieval of dangling or spaghetti wires on April 15 or as soon as they are able to acquire the tools needed for the operation.
"Kapag nabili na nag mga tools (When we finally have the tools), next week after Holy Week, mag start na kaagad (we will immediately start)," Lao said.
The retrieval and cleanup operation, according to the Task Force Hapsay Kable co-chairman, will begin in Osmeña Street and will continue every day until all the abandoned or unused wires in the city are removed.
"Araw-araw na tayo hanggang next tayo sa Corrales, sa Velez, sa Capistrano, yung mga nakikitang dangled wires and spaghetti wires na nakikita. Mga volunteers, mga telco employees, mga Cepalco employees, tulong-tulong tayo sa pag remove ng mga unused or abandoned wires (We will conduct the removal of dangling, unused wires every day until the streets of Corrales, Velez and Capistrano with the help of the volunteer employees from the telecommunication companies and Cepalco employees)," Lao said.
The city councilor added that as soon as all the unused wires and cables are removed, they will immediately execute the plan to have an underground wiring system in which telecommunication cables and wires will be placed underground.
Lao said they will begin the underground wiring system project with Velez Street.
"Diyan naman sa Velez, meron tayong existing na underground area, yung underground tunnel, doon natin ilagay. Sa Velez lang, yung iba later na siguro (There is an existing underground tunnel in Velez Street, that's where we will place the cables and wires. For now, in Velez Street only)," Lao said, adding that the wires and cables in the area are owned by MisOrTel.
“Sana within six months matapos na agad (I hope we can finish the operation within six months),” Lao said.
