Council asks for probe on ‘sale’ of City’s meds

THE Cebu City Council wants the Human Resource Department Office to investigate personnel involved in the distribution of maintenance medicines in Sitio Lawis, Barangay Mambaling.

In a resolution approved last March 20, Councilor Raymond Alvin Garcia said there have been reports that a certain Enricoso was allegedly selling the medicines intended for the Long Life Medical Assistance Program (LLAMP).

Introduced in 2016, the LLAMP provides maintenance medicines daily to around 30,000 beneficiaries in the city.

“There is a need for this august body to request for the investigation of reports of abuses in the implementation of the LLAMP since the barangay officials of the barangay concerned cannot effectively investigate the same, the implementing office of the program being the Barangay Mayor’s Office (BMO) and not the barangay itself,” reads a portion of the resolution.

This is not the first time a reported staff member of the BMO made headlines.

Last January, the BMO in Apas was under fire for allegedly soliciting funds from business owners, while using the City Government’s seal, for their contingent in the 2018 Sinulog sa Barangay sa Dakbayan.

A few weeks later, another solicitation controversy reportedly done by the BMO in Mambaling reached the office of Mayor Tomas Osmeña.

The mayor just reprimanded the staff in Mambaling, saying he did not find any malice in the solicitation letter’s contents since they just used the letterhead and logo of the barangay.

In his news conference before the Holy Week, Osmeña said he will not tolerate the misconduct of his people.

“I don’t care if they are Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan. Some of them are getting cocky,” he told reporters.

He said some BMOs have asked for his permission for them to establish livelihood programs, provided that it will not involve gambling, among others. He earlier ordered the demolition of a perya (fair) in Barangay Parian and some eateries in Barangay San Roque. “I will tolerate some of these night markets. Basta livelihood okay ra,” he added.
