PH weightlifting gets support from Ayala Land

THE Weightlifting Association of the Philippines (WAP) finally got support from Ayala Land Incorporation after their successful stints in the international arena in recent years highlighted with the silver medal finish in 2016 Rio Olympics.

Weightlifting president Monico Puentevella yesterday confirmed that the national sports association received financial backing from Ayala Land through its president Bobby Dy alongside Human Resources and Public Affairs head Eliezer Tanpapco and Senior Division Manager Dindo Fernando.

“The support is intended for the athletes’ vitamins and nutrition. But, Ayala Land is also expected to provide assistance for the upcoming Asian Games and Olympic qualifiers,” he added.

Among those confirmed to represent the country are Diaz, Nestor Colonia, and Kristel Macrohon, Puentevella said.

Colonia won the 2015 Asian Championships and placed third in the clean and jerk at the 2015 World and 2016 Asian Championships. He also qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Macrohon also made her world championships debut last year in Los Angeles, California – finishing fifth in the snatch and fourth in clean and jerk as she settled 5thoverall in group B of the 69-kilogram division. (HGD)
