34th Cordillera day set April 23

THE 34TH Cordillera Day spearheaded by the Cordillera Peoples Alliance (CPA) co-hosted by the Tongtongan ti Umili and KAIABANG is set on April 23 to 25.

In lieu of the attacks against peoples’ rights in the region, this year event is anchored on strengthening unity among Cordillerans and intensify the Indigenous People’s struggle said CPA chair Windel Bolinget.

“The Cordillera Day serves as a venue for educational discussions on provincial, regional and national issues and challenges,” said Bolinget.

The CPA established in 1984 with 300 Indigenous Peoples organizations throughout the region, is the biggest IP alliance in the Cordillera for the defense of ancestral domain and self-determination.

“The 2018 Peoples Cordillera Day aims to strengthen unity and solidarity among Cordillerans to resist tyranny and intensify the Cordillera indigenous people’s struggles,” Bolinget said.

Bolinget added the continuing struggle for the Cordillera peoples include the defense of ancestral lands, resources and communities from the destruction by mining and energy corporations.

CPA said this year’s celebration is dubbed “Cordillera People’s Caravan Against Tyranny.”

The celebration includes a centralized and decentralized activities in schools, churches, and communities in Baguio with educational discussions and fora.

The 2018 Cordillera Day also serve as educational discussions on provincial, regional and national issues and challenges, strengthening the movement against tyranny in the region, cultural exchange between and among Cordillera delegates and other regions, and building solidarity among various groups.

Geraldine Cacho, CPA-Tongtongan ti Umili Chair said they have yet to announce this year’s Cordillera day guest speaker.
