SWU Phinma holds series of events for HM students

AS part of its efforts in developing its Hospitality Management (HM) program, Southwestern University Phinma held “The Tale On A Plate: An Interactive Demo on Food Styling, Photography and Blogging” last March 24 at the SWU Phinma Maroon Lounge.

Open to Grade 12 students who are interested to take Hospitality Management in college and to its present HM students, the event taught them how to go beyond plating and food styling. The speakers included Circa 1900’s chef and restaurateur Steve Shrimski who talked about food styling, Canon Professional and well-known photographer Joseph Ong who tackled food photography and lifestyle writer Hannah Obal who discussed food blogging.

Aside from the interactive demo on food styling, photography and blogging, a forum about “Understanding World-Class Hospitality, A Preview Session on Becoming an Events Planner” and a forum about “Life at Sea: Embarking in A Career In Hospitality on Cruise” were also conducted.

The goal of the event was to give SWU Phinma students a preview of the HM program’s new curriculum in partnership with Singapore’s SDH (School D’Hospitality) Institute, informing everyone that there are a lot of opportunities for HM students rather than just being in the hospitality field.

“We want to break the stereotype about HM students. We’re coming up with a curriculum that teaches our students beyond hospitality management, preparing them for their future careers,” said Steven Sasam, SWU-Phinma HM program chairman.
