Busy sports sked in VDSF

THE Visit Davao Summer Festival (VDSF) launched 17 sports events to be held in different tourist destinations in Davao Region.

VDSF chairman Benjie Lizada, in a press conference at the Seda Abreeza Hotel, bared that extreme and adventure sports will bring flavor to the month-long celebration of arts, sports and party presented by the Department of Tourism (DOT).

The 10th Mt. Apo Boulder Face Challenge and 3rd Mt. Apo Vertical to the Sky Race slated April 21 and 22 in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur will kick off the series of sports events while Compostela Valley (Comval) Province will host its 1st Comval Bobaye Climb at the Lake Leonard, New Leyte in Maco also on April 21 and 22.

Mati City, meanwhile, will showcase its pristine beaches when it hosts the 2nd National Amihan Skimboarding Competition slated 26 to 29 at the Amihan Beach in Dahican and the Bonamine Ultimate Beach Frisbee Tournament on April 27-29 at the Menzi Beach Park Campsite in Dahican.

The longest-running cross channel triathlon in the Davao region, dubbed as "Air Asia Durianman Cross Channel Triathlon", will also unfurl on April 29 from Davao City to the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos).

Igacos will also host Flanax Samal Marathon on May 6.

On May 20, the VDSF Dive Fest will rock Sigaboy Island, Gov. Generoso in Davao Oriental.

Tourists and adventurers will also have the chance to reach the peak of Mindanao's pride Mt. Apo in the VDSF Climb Caravan on May 25 to 30 in Kidapawan City.

But to those who are hesitating the Mt. Apo climb, Compostela Valley Province offers an alternative as they will also host a climbing caravan dubbed as "VDSF Mars Attack!" national climb on May 24-27 at Mt. Candalaga in Maragusan. Another dive festival will be hosted on May 26 at Burias and Tinaytay Reefs in Davao Oriental while on the same date, the Tempra Battle of the Strongest cross fit will be conducted at Matina Town Square (MTS) Pavillon, McArthur Highway, Matina Davao City.

Diving action never stops as Igacos will also have a dive fest on June 3 followed by Comval Aquathlon at Lubi Plantation, Kopiat Island on June 10.

The biggest dragonboat race will also hit Pujada Bay, Davao Oriental as the Race of the Dragons 1st Pujada Bay Dragonboat Invasion will open on June 17.

A climb to Mt. Hamiguitan, meanwhile, will close the two-month sporting event on June 22 to 24.
