Skimboarding tilt kicks off on Apr. 26

REGISTRATION is ongoing for the second National Amihan Skim Boarding Competition, one of the sporting events of the widest and longest Visit Davao Summer Fest (VDSF) 2018 program that will kick off on April 26 in Mati City's home of world-class skimboarders, the Amihan Beach in Dahican.

Tournament director Pedro Plaza of Amihan sa Dahican, in a phone interview with SunStar Davao on Tuesday, said a total of 50 skimboarders had already registered but they need 70 more entries to reach the 120 initial target.

"Paningkamutan jud namo maabot ang target sir, hopefully maabot jud. (We will do our best to reach the target sir, hopefully we can)," Plaza said.

Plaza, however, said some participants from Luzon and Visayas had already expressed interest and will spice up the national skimboarding competition that will benefit the scholars of Amhian sa Dahican and its regular turtle egg hatching tradition.

"We have tough contenders from Leyte and Negros," Plaza said, pertaining to the expert and advance category.

Defending champion Lang Aporbo, younger sister of Mati City's pride and international skimboarding champion Sonny or commonly known as "Bayogyog", will defend her title in the women's division.

Plaza added that 15 years and below skimboarders will take the centerstage in the beginners division.

Pioneering skimboarders, ages 30 years and above, however, will share the limelight in the legend's "Dahong Laya" division.

The registration is pegged at P350 inclusive of singlet, freebies and souvenirs.

Big cash prizes await winners as the expert champion will take home P20,000 while the next two placers will getP15,000 and P10,000.

The top three advance category winners will pocket P15,000, P10,000 and P8,000, respectively.

The women's, beginner's and legend's division top three will take home P8,000, P5,000 and P3,000.
