New dads to be assigned committees in May

DAVAO City Vice Mayor Bernard Al-ag said on Tuesday, April 17, that the 18th City Council is eyeing to assign specific committee memberships to the two newly appointed councilors this May 8.

Al-ag, in Tuesday’s media forum, said the council will decide on committee chairmanships to be given to Bai Cherry Ann Ortiz-Codilla, newly selected Indigenous People's Mandatory Representative (IPMR), and newly appointed councilor Carmelo Clarion, who replaced Al-ag as third district councilor.

Al-ag said he already met Codilla from Bagobo-Klata tribe.

"We are just waiting for her Certificate of Affirmation (COA) and then she has to take her oath of office. Ang schedule niya sa oath taking (is) on April 27, so I was expecting on May 8, she will attend the session," Al-ag said

The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) will issue the COA.

Meanwhile, Clarion has already attended two sessions after he took his oath as the new councilor last April 9, Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor). The oath was administered by Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio.

While Codilla will surely be placed as the chair of Cultural Communities and Muslim Affairs, Clarion's chairmanship is yet to be known.

In a separate interview, Clarion told reporters that he will accept any committee that the council will decide for him to have. However, if he is to be asked on the committee he wants, the expressed interest in handling the committee on peace and order, bearing his experience as a chief local executive in the third district.

As of the moment, Davao City Councilor Mabel Sunga-Acosta sits as the chair of the peace and order committee.
