A traffic enforcer from the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) was caught in an entrapment by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 last Wednesday.
In a dyLA report, the arrested person was identified as Reina Magwati, who was assigned in the Traffic Police Group (TPG) and had been in service for 22 years.
Magwati was tasked by the police to turn over citation tickets to the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
As a deputized agent from the LTO, Magwati will then make an apprehension report where all the details of the incident are recorded.
Francisco Ouano, CCTO operations head, told SunStar Cebu that prior to her arrest, Magwati handled a car collision incident.
Magwati reportedly assured one of the parties involved that she will help settle the matter in exchange for P500.
“She allegedly demanded payment. As public servants, it is our duty to help without asking for anything in return. It’s a pity that she had to resort to that given that she’s been working for more than two decades. This will also serve as a warning to the others,” Ouano said.
In line with Mayor Tomas Osmeña’s policy not to show mercy to erring City Hall workers, Ouano said the CCTO will be terminating Magwati’s services. (RTF with reports from JOB)
