Cordillera cops join 2nd quarter nationwide quake drill

CAMP BADO DANGWA, La Trinidad -- Personnel of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Cordillera conducted an earthquake simulation as they join the nationwide earthquake drill conducted on June 29.

PRO-Cordillera personnel also conducted a rescue simulation during the drill as Bureau of Fire Protection’s Chief Inspector Ramel Borja commended the regional command for the successful simulation.

“Maganda ang naging set-up,” Borja said there is still room for improvement and recommended a head-count should have been conducted.

“Dapat pag nakalabas na lahat, nakahilera na yung mga personnel, meron nang isang nasa harap na nagheaheadcount agad.”

According to Borja, the headcount will help PRO-Cordillera personnel to determine whether someone is missing and in such occasion, may plan how to rescue their fellow personnel.

Borja also suggested each building in Camp Bado must have a medical team with first-aid kits for initial treatment in case of a real emergency.

Police Senior Superintendent Rwin Pagkalinawan, PRO–Cordillera’s deputy regional director for Operations, said the next earthquake drill for the third quarter will include all buildings in the camp participating that will include simulating casualty.

Pagkalinawan also urged cops to undergo a first-aid seminar and procurement of first-aid kits for each building.

“At least dalawang personnel kada office marunong mag-first-aid. Magpapatawag tayo ng Red Cross, magka-conduct tayo ng training dito para lang just in case of the Big One at mayroong casualty sa loob ng inyong office, at least makakapag-bigay siya ng first-aid,” Pagkalinawan said.

“Hopefully, we can do better next time. Tandaan niyo, tayo ang first responder. Therefore, dapat less ang casualty natin kapagk nangyari yan para makapag-responde tayo sa pangangailangan ng community,” Pagkalinawan said.

Borja said the second quarter simulation had more participants compared to the first quarter which focused in schools areas. (Jenny Alexis Caburian, UP Baguio intern/SunStar Baguio)
