Gunrunning suspect sued

AN ACCUSED gunrunner is facing charges before the court after he was caught in the act of selling a rifle during an entrapment operation launched in San Antonio Village, Matina, Davao City on June 12, Monday.

Charged with violation of Republic Act 10591, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Firearm and Ammunition Regulation Act, is Melven Hao, a shop owner and resident of the same place.

In a two-page resolution dated on June 22, prosecutor Irene Joy Tala-Montero found probable cause to charge the accused based on the complaint filed by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Davao Region.

Record showed that the accused was reported selling firearms without authority. Hao also intended to sell one M16 rifle for P80,000. The suspect failed to present legal documents that allow him to possess and sell firearms in Davao City.

Recovered from the possession of the accused were P1,000 marked money with paper cut-outs, a homemade shotgun, a caliber .38 revolver frame, four revolver cylinders and its assorted parts, and two various ammunition.

According to the resolution, the prosecutor finds the arrest of the accused lawful.
