TROPICAL Depression Emong has further gained strength as it rapidly moves toward the Ryukyu Islands, a Japanese chain of islands, the state weather bureau said on Sunday, July 2.
In its 5 p.m. weather advisory, Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the center of “Emong” was spotted 405 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 80 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 95 kph.
The tropical depression is forecast to move northwest at 30 kph.
So far, “Emong” does not pose threat to any part of the country, Pagasa said.
Cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms will be experienced over the regions of Zamboanga Peninsula (Western Mindanao) and Autonomus Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will prevail over Bicol Region, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Western Visayas, Metro Manila and the rest of the country, Pagasa said.
Coastal waters throughout the country, meanwhile, will be slight to moderate.
