Pampanga cops arrest alleged NPA members

SIX people who claimed to be members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were arrested by the police on Monday, July 3, in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga province.

Superintendent Roland Agohob, city’s acting police chief, said a businessman from Barangay Del Pilar complained to the police that the suspects tried to extort money from him and his fellow businessmen.

Agohob said authorities conducted an entrapment operation in Del Pilar village that led to the arrest of the suspects identified as Leonidea Ramos, 80; Jay Dizon, 40; Joebeth Caranza, 27; Darwin Santiago, 36; Roderick Laxamana, 42; and Alex Guevarra, 38.

Several handguns, a hand grenade, sachets of illegal drugs, and two vehicles were confiscated from the suspects.

Agohob said that the suspects have already extorted at least P700,000 to P1 million from several businessmen in Pampanga.

He added that they are still looking into other cases that could have been committed by the suspects.
