Boncan: Creative city

WHAT better way to celebrate a milestone than to share God-given talents and skills to the community? The Cordillera School of Digital Arts, Inc. (CSDA) decided to celebrate their ten-year anniversary by giving back to a less advantaged community by partnering with Helping Hands, Healing Hearts Ministries Philippines, Inc.

Mr. Raul Boncan, Jr., the President of CSDA mentioned that the reason why they did this was to give the kids an opportunity to learn art as they might not have the same chance to do this in a regular school. That being said, learning the arts at a young age is of substantial value as it can be honed and developed over time. Not to mention, it is a great avenue where kids get to showcase their skills, talents, and their unique, distinctive creativity.

Furthermore, the outreach or “ArtReach” is a three-week plan where volunteers from the school teaching the kids how to do simple yet creative art projects. A lead trainer will be assigned to each class as other volunteers will assist and guide the kids based on the instructions given by the lead trainer. At the very beginning, they were taught the basics such as drawing a face, the color wheel, how to choose a palette, and how to blend colors.

So, CSDA decided to assigned the kids with two different themes according to age group: the theme for the seven to ten year olds was “The Joy of Childhood” while the theme for the kids eleven years old and up was "Beautiful Life."

First, The Joy of Childhood makes use of particularly interactive projects such as: Bubble Blower painting, where kids get to blow differently colored bubbles on sheets of paper; and Footprints in the Sand, where they paint a beach on a canvas and dip their feet in paint then press them on the canvas. Also, they have the Fireworks Painting Activity, Tulips Painting, along with other additional art projects.

Second, for the Beautiful Life theme, the projects are: painting your favorite Bible verse, coffee painting, watercolor and salt painting, tape-resist watercolor painting, and other painting exercises. These are catered to their older group of kids, and therefore are more sophisticated and require a bit more precision.

Thankfully enough, the project was opportune, as Helping Hands will be having a charity dinner on August 12, where the art projects auctioned off to help raise funds.
