157.2 MW hydros to power Mindanao in 2 years

A TOTAL of 157.2 megawatts (MW) of committed hyrdroelectric projects are expected to power the Mindanao grid in the next two years.

Data from the Department of Energy (DOE) showed that the biggest hydroelectric project that is expected to come in is the 68.8 MW Manolo Fortich Hydro Project of Hedcor Bukidnon Inc. in Santiago, Bukidnon.

The project is composed of two hydropower plants, the 43.4 MW Manolo Fortich I and the 25.4 MW Manolo Fortich II.

The testing and commissioning of the hydropower plant is targeted to be on the third quarter of this year.

The 25 MW Lake Mainit hydroelectric project of the Agusan Power Corporation in Jabonga, Agusan del Norte is also targeted to have its commissioning by the end of this year.

According to the data, the construction is ongoing but the company is still in the process of submitting lacking requirements like permits.

Euro Hydro Power (Asia) Holdings, Inc.'s 2.4 MW New Bataan hydroelectric power plant is also targeted to have its testing and commissioning this year.

In July 2018, the 30 MW Puyo Hydroelectric Power Plant of First Gen Mindanao Hydropower Corp. in Jabonga, Agusan del Norte is targeted to have its testing and commissioning; however, according to the data from DOE, the construction of the project has been put on hold since April 2015 due to security in the area.

The 8 MW hydroelectric power plant of Asiga Green Energy Corp. in Santiago, Agusan del Norte, is targeted to have its testing and commission in August 2019.

Also targeted to start its testing and commissioning in 2019 is the 23 MW Bubunawan Hydroelectirc Power Project of the First Gen Mindanao Hydropower Corp. in Bukidnon.
