Transport groups seek solon’s help on Negros LTFRB chief

LOCAL transport groups asked the assistance of Bacolod City Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya in their call to assign a regional director for the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Negros Island Region (NIR).

Gasataya held a meeting with transport leaders on Thursday, July 6, at his office in Hi-Strip III, Circumferential Road in Bacolod.

The meeting was attended by officials and members of Federation of Bacolod City Drivers Association, Sentrong Samahan ng Tsuper at Operators sa Negros, and United Negros Drivers and Operators Center.

They also requested to hire employees for LTFRB-NIR who are residents of Bacolod.

Elizabeth Katalbas of Febacda said the LTFRB-Bacolod is still under the management of LTFRB-Western Visayas and their employees are from Iloilo City.

“We are facing difficulties in processing our permits because the LTFRB employees here are from Iloilo City and they always report late and close early,” Katalbas said.

Gasataya said he asked the groups to submit a letter to formalize their request.

He added that they also discussed the Joint Memorandum Circular 001, Series of 2017 issued by the Department of the Interior and Local Government and Department of Transportation or the guidelines on the preparation and issuance of local ordinances, orders, rules and regulations concerning the local public transport route plan.

Gasataya said the transport groups agreed to come up with a position paper they will submit next week that he will refer to the House committee on transportation.

The transport groups also asked the assistance of Gasataya in fast tracking the road projects implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways to address the traffic congestion in various areas.
