Four books everyone should read

AT TIMES, when we couldn’t seem to get the right words and advices from any persons around us, we look for other channels that could speak right through us with words that could pierce our soul and comfort us at the same time. Sometimes, we could find this refuge in the form of books.

Are you feeling down? Disappointed? Are you a dreamer? Whoever you are and whatever situation you are in right now, here are some books that will definitely turn your world upside-down and eventually make it right straight up.

The Icarus Deception

Author: Seth Godin

This book by Seth Godin will truly make you change the way you think about your job, your art or whatever it is that you are creating right now. Every line from this book will hit you from the inside out. It is a highly transformational book for those who want to make a difference.

Icarus Deception is so titled because it reminds us of the story of Icarus, the son of master craftsman Daedalus in the Greek Mythology. In that story, Icarus had been warned by his father not to fly too high lest his wings, which are made by Daedalus himself and are made of wax, will be melted by the scorching heat of the sun.

We can totally relate to this in our everyday lives especially when we aspire something that we really desire to do or have, that time when we lose sight of what is really essential because we are soaring too high, but what we are not often told about is that, we should not also forget to fly too low to the point that where our wings touch the sea water and get wet, this is the Icarus Deception.

I have so many favorite quotes from this book and among them is the line that says, “Your job isn’t to do your job. Your job is to decide what to do next.”

The Four Agreements

Author: Don Miguel Ruiz

I was introduced to Don Miguel Ruiz through my boss, Ma’am Stella Estremera, who keeps copies of the author’s books on her bookshelves. Don Ruiz had become a favorite then. The Four Agreements is a book that will help you create new agreements and replaced the old ones that you have unconsciously created as you grow up.

As we go on with our life, we tend to create a view about ourselves and others that do not do us any good at all and this book will help us see and identify those agreements that tend to diminish our value and delimit us. It will remind you to make new positive agreements.

The Four Agreements identified in the book are actually simple things that we often overlooked and they are:

1. Be impeccable with your word.

2. Don’t take anything personally.

3. Don’t make assumptions.

4. Always do your best.

Don Miguel Ruiz’s the Mastery of Love is also another book that one must read.

Get What You Want

Author: Tony Burroughs

This book will pour out a lot of optimism into you by making and manifesting your intentions. What you want, you will get, that is the basic principle in the book. Basically, all of what the book talks about will boil down into faith, that is, if you believe that you can get whatever it is that you desire then you can get it.

“Everything you need will be there for you in the exact moment that you need it,” says one of the quotes from the book.

Hope for the Flowers

Author: Trina Paulos

It is amazing how the story of caterpillars can teach us so much about life. This book tells the story of caterpillars named Stripe and Yellow. The book contains relevant illustrations of some scenes from the story, much like Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s “The Little Prince,” and you can read it in just one sitting. Once you pick it up, you can’t put it down.

One remarkable quote from the book is this:

“How does one become a butterfly?” she asked pensively.

“You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.”

So, if you feel like you want to get some piece of advice about life, then you must try reading these books.
