THE Philippine Science High School (PSHS) announced that its scholarship for school year (SY) 2016-2017 is now open.

Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Zamboanga Peninsula Director Brenda Nazareth-Manzano said the scholarship is open to graduating grade six pupils who belong to the upper 10 percent of the graduating class of SY 2015-2016 as certified by the school principal, or those with special aptitude in Science and Mathematics, as supported by a report card and letter of recommendation.

She said the qualifiers shall be selected on the basis of their performance in the PSHS-National Competitive Examination to be administered on October 3 this year.

She said the applicant must also be born on or after July 1, 2001; must be a Filipino citizen with no pending application as immigrant in any foreign country; must have at least a satisfactory rating (or its equivalent) in Character Rating in the report card; must be in good health and is fit to undergo a rigorous academic program.

Manzano said the PSHS is an academic institution under the DOST. It is the first science high school in the Philippines that rears students to become scientists and technologists in the future.

The school has a curriculum designed to prepare the scholars for careers in science and technology, she added.

Among the privileges that PSHS scholars will receive are free tuition, free loan of textbooks, and monthly stipend.

Uniform, transportation and living allowances are also provided according to the scholar’s financial need.

Application forms and scholarship brochures can be obtained at the DOST regional office in Zamboanga City and at the Provincial Science and Technology Centers in Dipolog City and Pagadian City.
