BFAR builds P11.4-M fish landing centers

THE Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and the local government have agreed to construct four community fish landing centers (CFLCs) worth P11.4 million in Zamboanga City.

The accord was formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed on Tuesday by BFAR-Zamboanga Peninsula Director Ahadulla Sajili and Zamboanga City Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar.

Belen Sheila Covarrubias said the MOA signing took place after BFAR presented to Salazar the certificates of award for the CFLCs confirming the availability of funds for the project.

The project is in line with BFAR’s poverty alleviation program.

Covarrubias said the CFLCs, each costing P2.85 million, follow the “bagsakan center” concept for agriculture products.

The four CFLCs will be constructed in the village of Arena Blacno, Labuan, Mangusu and Tictapul.

The CFLCs will be used for fish and fishery products and will serve as multi-purpose centers where associations will hold meetings, skills training and data gathering activities. (Bong Garcia)
