Caci produces 4.142-M bags of sugar for year 2016-2017

THE Central Azucarera de La Carlota Inc. (Caci) produced 4,142, 889.58 Lkg (50-kilogram) bags of sugar for crop year 2016-2017, showing a significant reversal in its mill performance and efficiency in the past year.

Esteban Coscolluela, vice president and general manager, said they started milling already quite late in October 3, 2016 since almost all the other sugar mills opened in August yet.

“We ended up milling for 33 weeks instead of 28 weeks because we have milled so many canes. The requests were more than our target. We milled late because we wanted to be sure that when we started milling, the canes are mature enough,” he said.

Comparative milling data showed that in the previous years, Caci’s sugar production was 3,734,960.70 Lkg in 2013-2014; 2,893,427.34 Lkg in 2014-2015; and 2,858,149.16 Lkg in 2015-2016.

In gross tons, sugar production was 1,874,097.349 in 2013-2014; 1,444, 264.594 in 2014-2015 and 1,486,561.778 in 2015-2016.

Under Coscolluela’s watch in 2016-2017, sugarcane produced in tons totaled 2,145, 230.213.

Roxas Holdings Inc. hired Coscolluela, former mayor of Murcia, Negros Occidental, on May 23, 2016.

He thanked the support of the Asociacion de Agricultores de La Carlota y Pontevedra Inc. headed by its president Roberto Cuenca.
