NPA rebels burn P3-M heavy equipment

THREE million pesos worth of heavy equipment were burned by a group of New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in an attack at a government construction site in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported on Monday, July 10.

Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula (Western Mindanao) Director Billy Beltran said the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m., Sunday, July 9, at Purok 1, in the village of Licabang, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur.

Beltran said a group of 15 rebels surrounded the bunkhouse of Ramona Construction Firm and set on fire several parked dump trucks and heavy equipment after pouring it with gasoline.

Among the burned heavy equipment are one unit Mitsubishi Canter, one unit Mitsubishi mini dump truck, and one unit Isuzu dump truck.

Beltran said authorities responded to the scene but the rebels were already gone when they reached the area. (SunStar Philippines)
