Hidalgo: On the road toward peace and progress

THE "Peace Corridors" in selected places in the war zones have Christians and Muslims meeting in an open forum and expressing defense for their ideologies and beliefs. It is accepted that they differ with the Muslims on their Isis and the Christians on their Christ. Tolerance, understanding, and empathy are the choice middle grounds. Live and let live. No ideology has a monopoly on the essence of their salvation by their Allah or God. All remaining Mautes in Marawi City are surrendering. But the president has this order, no prisoners, kill all of them. You be the judge. Would you do the same?

In Cagayan de Oro, the city has built a prototype of an ideal evacuation building with facilities to serve all the needs of displaced persons during war or sieges like the event in Marawi City.

Right now thousands of "bakwits" are sardine packed in their temporary quarters, lacking food, basic needs, and sanitation. It is a blessing that concerned benevolent people brought aids to give a sense of order in this despicable state. So many got sick like children with diarrhea. Some died. So many are filled with anxiety, sadness, fright and longing for lost relatives especially parents with kids.

Psychologists have organized debriefing classes for these "bakwits" to help them cope with the aftermaths of siege. This will take time. Some go crazy or lose their minds if not treated. Children have special needs. They were given chance to go back to school. Basic education is a must. It is a solid base for renewed hope. Kids are together with their parents. Even the IP's (Indigenous People's), the Lumads, are in this aid.

On raising funds these were timely. The Philippine Councilors League will give P200,000 pesos to rebuild Marawi. The EU (European Union) will donate 49 million pesos worth of humanitarian aids and life-saving assistance for the rebuilding of Marawi and its citizens. A total of 70,000 families were affected in the siege need help.

All adult "bakwits" are given incentives to be able to earn their livelihood needs. Efforts are exerted to promote more activities where Christians and Muslims take part.

The coming "Kadayawan Traditional Festival" on August is a chance to pursue such unifying affairs. We hope the Martial Law will be lifted.

Intensive vigilance of all peace keeping groups, the army, marines, PNP, and the new crew formed throughout the country will efficiently reach our goal for peace and prosperity.
