4 Luzon, Visayas schools join 5th Mindanao university fair

FOUR colleges and universities in Luzon and Visayas will participate in the 5th University Fair on July 13 to 15 at The Annex of SM City Davao amid martial law.

"Big schools like University of Santo Tomas, Mapua University, Malayan Colleges and Silliman University will be joining again this year," said SM City Davao Assistant Manager Engineer Nick Santos, during Monday's Kapehan Sa Dabaw.

He, however, admitted that the current situation in Mindanao takes a slight toll to the annual event as the total number of participating universities declined to 20 from 30 last year.

Dubbed as Davao City’s biggest academic fair, the event, aims to showcase the best practices of each school. On its fifth year, schools offering senior high school education will also participate.

Also entered are Ateneo de Zamboanga, Ateneo de Davao University (Addu), University of Immaculate Conception, University of Mindanao, Davao Doctors College and Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) along with the Philippine Science High School, Davao City National High School, I-Chef, IMS, St. Alexius Flight School, Most Institute and Joji Ilagan Bian Career Center.

Those who wish to study abroad may visit Catholic University of Murcia (Spain) UCAM's booth and attend scholarship talks for Japan, Indonesia, Korea and Australia.

For this year, model-actor Benjamin Alves will share his thought on July 13 about academic excellence and finding balance in career and social life and education. He graduated summa cum laude at the University of Guam with a degree in English Literature.

On the second day John Naranjo, founder of Ingenuity Global Consulting Incorporated, will talk about entrepreneurship while on the last day, social media influencer and TV personality Chito Samontina will impart his knowledge and experience on education in the digital age. Samontina is a product of both HCDC and ADDU.

The Commission on Higher Education, Department of Science and Technology, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, as well as the SM Foundation Incorporated are also expected to discuss their scholarship programs. (Randie Jardin Comilang, UIC Intern)
