BJMP told to beef up security

BACOLOD City Councilor Ricardo Tan, chairperson of committee on police matters, told the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to beef up security inside their facilities.

“The escaped of an inmate is a big lesson to the personnel of BJMP, especially the jail wardens,” Tan said.

He said the BJMP should double its efforts in conducting inspections of the inmates’ cells to monitor their activities.

On Saturday, July 8, an inmate escaped from the Metro Bacolod District Jail (MBDJ)-Male Dormitory Annex in Barangay Handumanan.

Drug suspect Arian Mark Salaver climbed the 14-foot perimeter fence and jumped to the other side, where he boarded a motorcycle as his get-away vehicle.

He was recaptured on Sunday night.

Tan said the jail guards should always check all the inmates’ cells to avoid a similar incident.

He added he will author a resolution requesting the BJMP to submit their investigation report.
