PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has appointed former Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Francis Tolentino as his adviser for political affairs.
"Pursuant to the provisions of existing laws, you are hereby appointed Political Adviser, Office of the Political Adviser," his appointment paper dated June 27 stated.
Tolentino served as MMDA chairman under the administration of President Benigno Aquino III. He was supposed to run as a senator under the then administration Liberal Party in the 2016 elections.
But he was involved in a controversy prior to the campaign period when he brought sexy performers to a birthday party of an official in Laguna.
He later ran as an independent senatorial candidate and during the height of the campaign, he expressed support to then presidential candidate, former Davao City mayor Duterte. He lost in the race.
Since then, he became a familiar face in Malacanang. Tolentino's sister, Analyn, is Duterte's Social Secretary.
Aside from Tolentino, Duterte also appointed 29 others to various posts.
Some of them are the following: Amable R. Aguiluz as Special Envoy of the President to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC); Karlo S. Bello, Undersecretary of the Department of Agrarian Reform; Anthony Castelo, member of Board of Directors of the Bataan Shipyard and Engineering Company Inc.; William Lima, Special Envoy of the President to the People’s Republic of China; Feducia Mia Reyes Lucas, Undersecretary Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO); Florentino Yee Loyola Jr., Assistant Secretary PCOO; and Edilberto Sandoval, Special Prosecutor.
