A COUPLE, who has an alleged connection to a police officer, was caught during a drug bust in sitio Tabok Lamac, Barangay Yati in Liloan town, Cebu, at 2:45 a.m. Monday, July 10.
Suspects Ramil Saga Pepito and his wife, Merlyn, were arrested after they yielded a pack of crystal meth (shabu).
Liloan police chief Melbert Glade Esguerra said Ramil surrendered to a friend, a town police officer, during an "Oplan Tokhang" last year.
Oplan Tokhang, which means “knock and plead,” is Philippine National Police's anti-illegal drugs operation wherein authorities knock on the doors of suspected drug users or pushers and ask them to surrender.
Superintendent Esguerra, however, said they received reports that the suspects are still involved in the illegal drug trade.
"Daghan gihapon istorya nga wa gyod mi-undang kay untouchable kuno kay dunay amiga nga pulis. Hasta ang mayor naka-receive og report sa text nga namaligya ni sila (There are still reports that the suspects continue selling illegal drugs as they have an alleged tie to a local police officer. Even Mayor Christina Garcia Frasco received reports on the suspects' illegal activity)," Esguerra said.
"Nalipay mga silingan pagkadakop kay kuyawan kuno sila bisag kinsa lang kuno mga tao mangadto sa balay sa pusher nga wala sila kaila," Esguerra added. (KAL/SunStar Cebu/SunStar Philippines)
