Troops overrun suspected NPA camp in Ifugao

TINOC, Ifugao -- A suspected New People’s Army’s (NPA) encampment was overrun by troops Monday morning, July 10, at Barangay Dango, this province.

Members of the Army's 54th Infantry Battalion discovered the encampment with 38 tents after a 25-minute gun battle with alleged NPA members under the Nona del Rosario Command.

The troopers also recovered two M16-A1 assault rifles, two icom radios, five bandoliers, two rifle grenades, eight backpacks, one pack grind marijuana, different electronic devices, assorted medical paraphernalia, subversive documents and personal belongings.

No casualty was reported but government forces believed the enemy suffered numerous casualties due to scattered blood stains in the encounter site but were taken away by their comrades, who managed to escape and hide.

The 54th Infantry Battalion Commanding Officer Nicolas Quemado Jr., commended the operating troops and advised them to be vigilant while the combat operation is still on-going.

“Our troops only responded to information given by a civilian. The rebels are conducting banditry in their community causing fear among their tribe. The civilian added that the said rebels are conducting extortion activities,” he stated.

Quemado appealed to the rebels to lay down their firearms and avail the Comprehensive Local Integration Program of the government. (PIA)
