Kean Gabriel Hotline gets more prank calls

AN increased number of prank calls was recorded by the administrators of Kean Gabriel Hotline within the month of July after the intensified broadcast of the hotline through television and radio.

From July 1 to 12, the hotline recorded a total of 1,030 prank calls, which is higher compared to 832 prank calls recorded in June 2017.

The months of April and May 2017 only got a total of 751 prank calls.

Call taker Ritchie Glen Coralde said that for July they had an average of 150 prank calls per day.

Coralde added that this was noted after the advertisements were released on air.

"Kasagaran manawag kay mga bata, kanta-kantahon ang jingle (Most of the callers are children singing the jingle)," he said.

Coralde said calling for fun is disadvantageous especially if they are contacting other people to coordinate with them.

"They are ruining the process of our rescue operations. For example, pag may hinihintay kami na (when we are waiting for a) response from the barangay kasi may (because there is an) ongoing na operation, tapos tatawag yung mga nagpa-prank, hindi na ma-receive yung hinihintay namin na tawag (then, the prank call comes in, we won’t be able to received the call that we have been waiting). Delayed yung operations."

Coralde, however said, they also received more legitimate reports unlike before that some responders were deployed in an area only to discover that the report was false.

The total reported cases already reached 169 from January to June 2017. (KVC)
