Bacolod vice mayor to donate K-9 dogs for city police office

THE vice mayor of Bacolod City on Thursday, July 13, said he will donate German Shepherd and Belgian dogs to be trained as bomb sniffing dogs of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran issued the commitment after Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, acting director of BCPO, had earlier said that the police lack K-9 units to respond during bomb threats.

Familiaran said his German Shepherd and Belgian dogs are set to deliver puppies and four months after he could donate two to the BCPO.

“We only need a trainer for the dogs,” he added.

At present, for bomb threat scenario, the BCPO is responding along with the K-9 team of the Philippine Army or the Philippine Coast Guard.

Law enforcement agencies are using the K-9 dogs to help them to locate the bomb.

Familiaran said there are lots of dog breeders in Bacolod and he is hopeful that they will do the same for the city's peace and order.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia had earlier said the City Government will find a budget for the acquisition of K-9 dogs, and they also welcome those who are willing to donate K-9 dogs for BCPO.
