MEGASTAR Sharon Cuneta confirmed that she's working with a new leading man in her upcoming project under Star Cinema.
In an interview with the seasoned actress after the Cinemalaya press conference on Thursday, July 13, she announced that her movie with ABS-CBN's film outfit will still push through.
She will start filming in September but said she will not be paired with former husband Gabby Concepcion.
"I prayed for it. I prayed for the movie that did not push through. If it's not meant to be, I prayed to You. He probably did not want it to push through and then this one did so this is probably what He wanted for me and it's probably a good thing. I take it like that. I take it positively," she said.
The Kapamilya star was quick to clarify though that she is still open to working with Concepcion and that she was not the reason why the movie was shelved.
"I was not the one, I did not cause the cancellation, let's just put it that way. Maybe his schedule, I don't know. I'd rather not investigate further, baka ma-hurt ako. Huwag na lang!" she said.
As for the new movie, Cuneta admitted that she is actually more excited about this one than the project she was supposed to do with Concepcion.
"We changed the script; of course it's a new leading man. I'm very excited and I know a lot of people will be, too."
Asked who her new leading man is, Cuneta remained tight-lipped and only said that Sharonians will surely love her co-star. "Madaming matutuwa. Very big fan base. Very, very big. Huge," she said.
Meanwhile, Cuneta will try her hand in independent movies. She is set to top bill Mes De Guzman's "Ang Pamilyang Hindi Lumuluha," one of the entries in competition at the upcoming Cinemalaya.
The said movie will be her comeback project on the big screen after her last one "Mano Po 6: A Mother's Love" in 2009.
Cuneta said she's happy to be part of the independent film community. She said it's a new experience for her.
"I was so excited, parang binuhos ko na lahat. I didn't care sa itsura ko. I had no inhibitions at all. You have the license to play around. It's not like mainstream na there's a certain... hirap kang sumugal kasi ang laki ng puhunan, ang laki ng pwedeng mawala."
"Kapag ganito, it's just really love and passion for the craft. I respect them and I'm very proud to be part of the indie group. I want to make more," she said.
