2 San Fernando officials face charges for illegal drugs, firearms

CRIMINAL charges were filed against a town councilor and a barangay captain in San Fernando, Cebu whom the police arrested last Monday for alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade.

San Fernando Councilor Alfonso Donaire IV and Johnny Arriesgado, an ex-officio member of the municipal council, are also facing charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

A separate drug case was also filed against Donaire before the Regional Trial Court in Cebu City.

Arriesgado, 54, was caught with an unlicensed .45 caliber pistol, a defective .30 caliber pistol and ammunition inside his house in Barangay Magsico.

Police also arrested Donaire for possession of an unlicensed .45 caliber pistol and a medium pack of suspected shabu inside his house in North Poblacion.

Arriesgado was released after posting bail of P175,000 for his illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Donaire was also temporarily freed after posting a total of P375,000 bail for his illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and drug charges.

A third suspect, municipal councilor Edwin Villaver, was also arrested with a 9 mm caliber pistol, a .357 revolver and a medium pack of suspected shabu.

Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Chief Noli Taliño described the three town officials as drug protectors.

The PRO 7 also received reports that the three officials were collaborators of self-confessed drug lord Franz Sabalones, brother of San Fernando Vice Mayor Franz Sabalones. (GMD)
