Population committee created in San Simon town

SAN SIMON -- The Provincial Health Infirmary and Population Control Services Office has organized a Barangay Population Executive Committee (BPEC) under the Philippine Population Program here on Friday.

Simultaneous to the organization, the group, headed by Population Program Officer 1 Josephine Lorenzo, conducted a seminar about population to further educate barangay officials.

"Once mabuo natin yung BPEC, we will have a more reliable data ng mga bagong panganak na bata, mga namamatay tsaka yung mga in and out migrants. In this way, mas magiging updated yung population count natin," Lorenzo said.

The office has been making a round of the whole province to establish BPEC in all barangays of Pampanga.

"Binababa natin sa kanila yung mga programa natin para mai-share nila ito sa mga nasasakupan nila," said Lorenzo.

The organization was attended by municipal and barangay officials and rural health unit (RHU) personnel, which are expected to part of the committee.

Aside from the organization, the office is also conducting seminars for parents and youth to raise their awareness about their rights.

The seminars for parents include topics about their rights as men and women and responsible parenthood while the youth are educated about their usual issues such as teen pregnancy, alcoholism, smoking and drugs.
