Strengthened drive vs improper waste disposal in city pushed

THE Bacolod City COuncil approved a resolution during their last session requesting the Department of Public Services through the City Mayor’s Office and the Solidwaste Management Committee of all barangays to strengthen their campaign against littering and improper waste disposal.

Authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito, chairperson of the committee on government assets, the resolution said that most of the drainage in the city are clogged up and needs to be cleaned given that the rainy season has started.

It added that major streets in some areas of the city are flooded due to heavy rains and the evident reason why the water level rose so fast is because of the congested and failing capacity of the drainage.

The resolution further said that conducting a major clean up of these drainage systems and the strengthening of the implementation of proper waste disposal will be considered as preventive measures of the city government in curtailing the spread and harmful effects of rainy day diseases such as dengue fever, leptospirosis, cholera, and scabies.(CNC)
