US ambassador to speak at Paralympic Summit

UNITED States (US) Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim will speak at the Baguio Paralympic Summit Philippines as a tool for developing an inclusive society.

Participants will include 100 sports officials, persons with disabilities athletes, coaches, and trainers who work with disabled populations in Baguio and Northern Luzon.

The event is held in partnership with Philippine Paralympian Powerlifter Adeline Dumapong, an alumna of the US Department of State Global Sports Mentoring Program. Other partners include the Philippine Sports Commission, the Philippine Paralympic Committee of the Philippines, and the Philippine Sports Association for the Differently Abled.

The event is a part of the nationwide summit which started last month with the theme "Transcending Barriers through Sports" as various sports personalities converge to discuss what the Philippine Paralympic scene needs for its betterment.

The summit was inspired by the success of Rio Paralympics bronze medalist Josephine Medina, who will be the guest of honor.

The summit will also be part of the Philippines' preparations for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, which include the preparations for the 2017 and 2019 Association of Southeast Asian Nations Para Games and the 2018 Asian Para Games. (RDO)
