CRIMES in Negros Occidental decreased by 2.43 percent in the first half of 2017 compared to the incidents recorded during the same period last year.
Data from the Provincial Plans and Operations Unit (PPOU) of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) obtained by SunStar Bacolod on Friday showed that 6,182 crime incidents were reported from January to June this year while 6,336 cases were listed in 2016.
Of the 6,182 cases, 1,920 were listed as index crimes and 4,262 were non-index crimes.
Among the eight focus crimes, rape increased to 129 cases compared to last year’s 122.
Physical injuries totaled 634 cases, robbery, 288; murder, 102; homicide, 48; motornapping, 40; and carnapping, 2.
On the campaign against illegal drugs, Nocppo arrested 366 drug personalities in 250 anti-illegal drug operations this year.
A total of 380.165 grams of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) were confiscated this year. There were 647 cases filed.
The provincial police crime solution efficiency decreased by 1.72 percent while crime clearance efficiency dropped by 2.4 percent.
Chief Inspector Norberto Barniso, head of PPOU, said that despite the decrease in their crime solution efficiency, the police are still effective in their anti-criminality campaign.
“It’s just that there were unsolved and uncleared cases due to the delay in the filing of charges,” Barniso added.
