THE stage is set for the 2nd Claude P. Bautista Mindanao Open Chess Tournament that will get underway on June 27 and 28 at the Gaisano Grand Mall in Digos City.

The event, organized by the provincial government of Davao del Sur and tournmanet director Jimmy Dano, will follow the eight-round Swiss System format but organizers may extend the rounds to nine depending on the number of participants.

Cash prizes are at stake in the two-day competition as the champion going home with P15,000 and the next two players receiving P7,000 and P5,000. Cash prizes of P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000 will go to the third, fourth and fifth placers, respectively, while the seventh to 10th placers will each settle for P500.

Special awards for the best female chesser, top senior, top three kids, and top five Davao del Sur players are also up for grabs.

Registration is pegged at P300 but Davao del Sur residents will have a discounted registration fee of P150.

Interested participants may register on-site before the tournament kicks off.
