CATBALOGAN CITY -- One person died and eight others were injured after two passengers buses owned by Samar Bus Line collided around 12 p.m. Sunday, July 23, in Barangay Binanalan, Sta. Rita, Samar.
Police Officer 3 Elmer Mirasol of Sta. Rita Municipal Police Station identified the buses as those of Samar Bus Line with plate number HVC 618, bound for Calbayog, and another with plate number HVJ 823, bound for Tacloban City.
Initial police investigation revealed that Arlan Obejas, the driver of the bus bound for Calbayog, died in the accident, while eight other passengers, including the driver of the bus bound for Tacloban, were injured.
The helper of the bus bound for Calbayog told police that a passenger van suddenly stopped ahead of them, prompting Obejas to overtake the van.
"Unfortunately, another Samar Bus Line was coming our way and caught (us) in surprise, which caused their collision," the bus helper said.
The injured victims were rushed by responders to the nearest hospitals for medical treatment. (SunStar Philippines)
