The Sona 2017 stunners

ALL eyes were on President Rodrigo Duterte as he delivered his second State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Monday, July 24. But as we feed on the goings-on in the country from the eyes of our top executive leader, there's also another thing that we anticipate- the Sona red carpet.

On Duterte's first Sona, some of the guests were able to come out with appreciative interpretations of the dress code which is to wear simple outfits. This year, they were once again told to “ditch the gowns, and donate to Marawi instead.”

We made a list of guests who still prove to stun even without the long, flowy attires we usually see at red carpet events.

1. Heart Evangelista

Heart always has a good fashion taste and this made her one of the constant figures to look for during galas. The actress who also identifies herself as an artist donned a Boom Sason as he entered the House of Congress with her husband Senator Chiz Escudero.

2. Tootsy Anggara

Tootsy, wife of Senator Sonny Angara, is also a favorite sight during the SONA. This year though, she admitted not having the time to prepare for her dress. Good thing she kept with her her junior prom, a Filipiniana Pitoy Moreno dress, outfit in 1991. Yes, when she was 15 years old, so that's 26 years ago. Wow. That's a way of telling moms out there that it's possible to maintain your physique as we age.

3. Salvador Panelo

Who said the red carpet is only for the ladies? The Chief Presidential Legal Counsel certainly never thought that way. The lawyer arrived at the Batasang Pambansa sporting a black tux with detailed patches. He jokingly said he got it from Divisoria.

4. Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio

We already know our mayor is beautiful but yesterday, she was just extra. The presidential daughter who tricked her followers on Instagram the night before the SONA on having troubles deciding which Barong Tagalog to wear for D-day came dressed in a pink Maria Clara and just left everyone staring.

5. Loren Legarda

As she said earlier, the lady senator wore a Maranao outfit to convey her support for the tribe's culture, heritage, livelihood, and commitment to help in the swift and complete rehabilitation of Marawi City. Her top is an old blouse worn by her late mother who was from Antique province and an old Maranao landap woven in the traditional inaul way. She also wore shoes made from Marikina and locally made bag as part of her support for local microenterprises.
