NEGROS Occidental Representative Alfredo Benitez remained open to unity talks between his political party Love Negros and the Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr.-led United Negros Alliance (Unega).
"We all have the same objective and that is to unite for the good of Negros. Politically, the first thing to do is to sit down and discuss. It is a bigger province. We need to get the sentiments of the leaders," he said Monday.
Benitez said that as far as Love Negros is concerned, they are still together as a group and they will meet within the year.
"It is about time to sit down. I am just waiting for the signal of our members," he added.
Third district mayors have pushed Benitez to run for governor in 2019 while he has been assured a slot in the senatorial line up of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).
Marañon, who is on his third and final term, pledged support for whatever future political plans of Benitez.
Unega and Love Negros used to be allies under the original UNA before it broke up in 2010.
