13-year-old 'rape victim' missing; mayor's help sought

THE parents of a 13-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by a radio broadcaster earlier this month have sought assistance from the office of Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña after their daughter went missing since Friday afternoon.

The girl reportedly went missing around 2 p.m. last July 21 in a public hospital where she and her mother were undergoing separate psychological consultations.

The girl’s mother said they were escorted by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 that day, but the authorities left for lunch and did not return, leaving the child alone in the hospital lobby.

“The doctor wanted us to have separate consultations to prevent sensitive discussions from triggering my already traumatized child. But when I went out, she was no longer there. We’ve searched everywhere but could not find her. That is why we are now seeking help from the mayor,” she said in Cebuano.

Before leaving for a vacation, Osmeña, who met with the parents, proposed giving a cash reward to those who can provide information on the whereabouts of the girl.

He also assured the parents that the City Government will call for an all-out search.

Offer

Three hours after their daughter went missing, the girl’s father said he went home and was told by their neighbors that a group of unidentified persons were looking for him to negotiate the situation.

The father said it was their first time to receive an offer from the defendant’s camp.

He, however, said that they will pursue the filing of a case and are not willing to settle with the accused.

The mother, however, lamented that the NBI is yet to facilitate the filing of the complaint against the broadcaster despite completing all the necessary documents.

“What more do they want? My daughter had already signed a sworn affidavit. We have a medical certificate. All we ask is justice for our child,” she said.

Last July 4, the radio broadcaster, who is also a lawyer, allegedly forced himself on the girl inside his car on Zamora St., Barangay Parian, Cebu City. (RTF)
