THE Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 plans to introduce Patrol 101 to raise police visibility and presence in the streets and in mountain barangays.
It is working on the mechanisms and guidelines, said Senior Insp. Reslyn Abella, PRO 7's public information officer.
She said they will need the help of local government units because it will be their job to keep an eye on policemen assigned in their areas.
Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Joel Doria said that he deployed two commando officers as platoon leaders to the Cebu City Public Safety Company (CCPSC) to lead patrol operations.
"They are now conducting prophylactic patrol in the mountain barangays to clear our areas after the recent atrocities in (Guihulngan) Negros Oriental. We don't want that to happen to Cebu City so my directive is for them to conduct patrols and minor and major operations if possible," Doria said.
He said the CCPSC patrolled areas that may be possible ambush sites.
"They started the patrol just one week before the incident (in Guihulngan). We haven't monitored any reports of the New People Army's presence here in the city," Doria said.
He said that it's better to be pro-active than reactive when it comes to dealing with rebel attacks.
"Cebu City continues to be a white area, meaning that they are not here. They (rebels) are very fluid if they might be in the city because we can't catch them if they don't have guns, violations or existing warrants," he said.
Meanwhile, the CCPO will intensify its Oplan Pokemon, or One Time Big Time operations, from a monthly operation to a weekly one.
It will heed the President's call during his second State of the Nation Address last Monday to wage a relentless war against illegal drugs.
"We saw that it was very effective, maraming nahuhuli (many were arrested). Tsaka yung volume ng illegal drugs at yung amount niya lumalaki (also we were confiscating more drugs) every week," Doria said.
The director also said that they are looking into catching politicians, who are involved in the drug trade.
"We are very careful in involving politics because we have to develop concrete evidence. We don't want to name names na wala naman tayong hawak na matibay na ebidensiya," he said.
