Fundador tops Fighter Wine race

DEFENDING Champion Dodoy Potistas Fundador retained the crown of the “Fighter Wine 50 Annual Suba Trisikad Race 2015” in Sitio Suba, Poblacion, Argao, last June 13.

Trisikad drivers from Argao and Dalaguete competed in the unique race that was part of the annual fiesta celebration of Sitio Suba’s patron, San Antonio de Padua. Uy Masuy Wine Factory Inc., the makers of Fighter Wine 50 raised the prizes for this year’s event, giving away P3,000 to the champion, P2,000 to the second placer and P1,000 to the third placer. Those who made the top 10 also got P150 each. There were two categories—A for the 18 to 39 years old and B for the 40 to 55 years old.

Fundador, who is from Barangay Langtad, Argao, started at pole position no. 4 in the final race of Category A. Leading the first lap was newcomer Felix Cari-Cari from Barangay Casay, Dalaguete while Fundador and 2014 second placer Cerlito Amad, checked in last as they were familiarizing the strength of their opponents.

It was on the second lap that the crowd got elated and cheers got louder when both sped up to trail the leading Cari-Cari who was overtaken by Fundador in the third lap. A neck-and-neck battle then went on with the defending champion and the newcomer with their sidecars rising above ground as they ply the sharp curves of the route, leaving the peloton behind all the way to the finish line of the five-kilometer and five-lap race. Fundador clocked in nine minutes and 25 seconds to retain his title, while Cari-Cari came in three second behind. Amad got third place in 9:48. The rest of the top 10 were Michael Lovitos, Edwin Anguis, Ryan Alviola, Vincent Gapuzan, Rolando Terano, Nelson Sarsaba and Ernesto Langi. (PR)
