Hauler faces complaint for failure to pay taxes

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Region 4 filed on Monday, July 24, a complaint against one Ernesto Cunanan for failing to pay taxes pursuant to Section 255 of the National Internal Revenue Code.

The BIR, in a statement, said that the complaint was filed with the Prosecutor's Office of the City of San Fernando.

According to BIR, the owner is the proprietor of the Ernesto Cunanan Hauling Services which is located in San Agustin in San Simon town.

The BIR said that investigations showed that based from third party sources and information, it was disclosed that INGASCO Inc. availed of the services of Ernesto Cunanan Hauling Services for taxable year 2009 amounting to P2,454,292.

The BIR added that the hauling company declared only P367,561 as income for the same year, which results in a substantial under-declaration of income amounting to P2,086,641.

"To give Mr. Cunanan the chance to reconcile this data, a letter notice with details of taxpayer's customers' records and follow up letter were served to Mr. Cunanan, however, he failed to take any positive action to refute the findings and/or or sent any documentary evidence to reconcile the variance," the BIR added.

BIR Regional Director Jethro Sabariaga said that Cunanan was assessed with deficiency basic income tax amounting to P341,687 and basic value added tax amounting to P250,396.

The case against Cunanan is the eleventh case filed under the Run After Tax Evaders program of the BIR Revenue Region 4 under the leadership of Sabariaga.
