Haima V70: The dark horse emerges

SINCE bagging the Best MPV of 2016 by the Car Awards Group, Inc. (CAGI), the Haima V70 goes on to prove to car enthusiasts and buyers why it's worthy of the prestigious title.

Aesthetically, the vehicle makes a good first impression. Top Italian automotive designer Luciano Ambrocio did a stellar job giving the V70 its unmistakable identity: sleek lines, swept-back headlights, sporty grille and a styled-up C-pillar. Its exterior attributes perfectly complement the car's interior which is nothing short of first class.

Inside, the V70 gives its passengers the VIP treatment with premium leather seats and 4 captain chairs. The driving seat can be adjusted six ways, allowing the driver freedom of movement and driving comfort. Ideal for a family of six, the car maintains its flexibility with an array of seat combinations making it convenient for a party of seven to fit inside without feeling cramped. The V70 also lends itself to different passenger configurations with seats that can be folded individually for additional trunk space.

Anyone expecting to be underwhelmed by Haima V70's cabin is in for a surprise. The Chinese car manufacturer made sure not to scrimp on the good stuff which includes a power tilt sliding moonroof and elegant center console and instrument panel outfitted with an ergonomic i-Drive Multifunction Control. A sophisticated steering wheel, 8-inch LCD monitor with Touch Screen Interface plus keyless entry and push start/stop button round up a modern cockpit that would make any driver happy.

Beyond the accoutrements, the car is armed with the trappings of a safe journey and a C-NAP Five-star safety design badge. Its body is a combination of brawn and high rigid steel that dissipates the impact damage during a crash to protect the driver and passengers.

Attention to safety is also evident in the car's other features such as an Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Traction Control System (TCS), and Hill Start Assist (HSA) and Hill Descent Control (HDC) and two air bags. Perhaps a most notable feature especially for parents is its Child Safety Alarm System, a patented technology exclusive to Haima.

Performance-wise, the Haima V70 is a pleasure to drive thanks to an independent McPherson Front Suspension and Multi-link Independent Rear Suspension that results to stabilize driving and flexible handling. The car runs on a Euro V compliant 4-in-line, 16V DOHC multi-point injection engine with 156/5500 Hp/rpm and 220 Nm/1800-4000 maximum torque.

The Haima V70 1.5L Deluxe A/T model is priced at Php 1,099,000, truly an affordable luxury that has all the bells and whistles a discriminating buyer looks for in a car.
