ABRA lawmaker JB Bernos vowed full support to President Rodrigo Duterte’s promise of enacting certified measures during his second State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Monday afternoon, July 24.
Bernos, who is the vice chairperson of the House Committee on Public Order and Safety, committed his support to modernize the Armed Force of the Philippines in continuing its fight against lawlessness, criminality, and terrorism.
“We are also going to finish what we have started in pushing for the modernization and reorganization of the Philippine National Police, in order to make our law enforcement more effective and more efficient,” Bernos in a statement said.
The neophyte lawmaker added the Congress is seen to explore the possibility of filling relevant legislative measures to combat criminality in the country.
Bernos also backed the President’s call on mitigating the effects of climate change.
“The province of Abra experienced a super typhoon last year which had been responsible for the destruction of homes and livelihood for many of our dear Abreños. We cannot let this happen again, let alone to other vulnerable sectors of our society and other parts of our country,” he quipped.
Being a predominantly agricultural province, Bernos said the province has to protect its economic interest and its main source of livelihood and as such, vows for the passage of a bill that will address the negative effects of climate change in the country.
As Duterte continues to push for federalism, Bernis said he vowed to be active in the discussion on changing the form of government and on the issue on passing the Bangsamoro Basic Law.
“As the voice of Abra in a national forum, I will make sure they will be heard in an issue that is timely and as decisive as these two,” added Bernos, referring to federalism and the BBL. (Roderick Osis)
